If I took a photo of you and you are not here it's because:

1. The pic came out too dark or too light
2. There was too much red eye in the shot and couldn't get it out
3. It was too fuzzy

So my appologies... and hope you all enjoy. I took as many pictures as I could during the brakes. If for any reason you wish your picture to be taken off line just let me know.

Oh, the two dresses in this photo are to die for: www.flickr.com/photos/877.../327000017/

(Lots of lovely dresses and suits in the other photos as well, but these make my little heart go pitter patter)

And maybe someday, I'll actually learn how to dance so that I feel comfy going to Gaskell's!

      1) The longer afternoon class is totally worth going to. The basics of waltz, starting with open waltz (walking) are taught, and it's a good chance to meet other people who don't know how to dance either. And you get a good parking space.

      2) The three functions of Gaskells are Dancing, Snarking about what people are wearing (or just admiring and getting ideas) and Gossip (or catching up with friends). If you can do even one of those three, you'll likely have fun.

Good to know. I've usually got functions # 2 and 3 down pat. Not much different from going to a goth club ;)

Seriously, it's often finding the time to take the classes. Soon! (the PEERS 12th Night Ball sounds like a lot of fun, too)

You'd be able to join in the set dances (Strip the Willow and Sir Roger de Coverlay). Grab a partner and put yourself in the middle of the line-up. By the time it gets to your turn, you'll have seen it a couple of times and often people will help new people through.

Ah, alas, I shall be in mourning, but perhaps when I am attired in something festive.. !

thanks everyone. Didn't mean to make this an "all about MEEEE!" thread.

              Thanks for the pictures Heidi!

              Gaskells Afters - yay!

Ladies dressing room - the scottish rite is so very, very sexist.

Thanks for the awesome picture in my tailcoat!

Yes, you matched the Hanukkah bush splendidly!

Who's that doing the Hallelujah cards, and Why?

Indeed we can drop the Isara thing now. I'm amazed some people are more self-involved than I am.

inconceivable! Does this mean I get a cookie now?

Hello! I'm Isara. You must be that absolutely dashing, charming, and handsome young fellow I've heard so much about from the legions of young nubile women I know. Pleased to make your acquaintance.

(oh rats. I was warned not to encourage you)

dear god, she complimented me, now what do I do?

Please accept my sincere apologies at not being able to repay the compliments; I know too many people already, so generally don't pay much attention to gossip about people I don't yet know.

"oh rats. I was warned not to encourage you"
Then you really have heard about me (it may as well be my tag line - incorrigeable: do not feed.).

But who are these legions of young nubile women you know? Surely I have not made their aquaintance either!
People do love to talk these days..

It's quite alright. There's nothing complimentary about me at all, really.

As for the young ladies, well... they speak from first person knowledge. Their gossip is like silken honey upon unknowing ears, with the occasional cry of "cad!" and "scoundrel!" tossed in for good measure.

So really it's all quite positive.

Ah, thanks for posting the photos, Heidi. You do look splendid in silver and blue, especially in front of a matching Christmas tree. ;) And thanks to Rollie for posting his pictures as well. Now, my ghost of Christmas Past can come to visit me through Flickr ... :)

I would strongly second the recommendation to take the class in the afternoon before Gaskells, where you can learn the basics of the waltz, mazurka, Sir Roger, and Congress and then likely feel more comfortable dancing at the Ball that evening. Likewise, I too have noticed many people that are quite willing to explain and demonstrate the Sir Roger and Strip the Willow set dances to any newbies in the line -- often with considerable panache. =)
